Refillable Jars - Zero Waste

Celebrating World Refill Day

Today is World Refill Day, a campaign by City to Sea to raise awareness of how we can prevent plastic pollution by promoting refill and reuse culture, and helping people live a less wasteful lifestyle.

The international movement has been created in response to the global plastic waste crisis, to show consumers, businesses and governments that refill is a simple lifestyle switch that can help save millions of tonnes of plastic pollution each year and reduce the amount of plastic we need in the first place.

So, how can you get involved in World Refill Day? The campaign is calling on consumers to:

  1. Make small changes and choose to reuse – whether you use a refillable water bottle or carry your shopping home in a reusable shopping bag. It’s a simple first step that can make a world of difference. That’s one less plastic water bottle or bag that may eventually find its way into the Ocean. For more simple swaps, take a look at BRITA’s Greening Good Guide.
  2. Download the free Refill app to find thousands of places to eat, drink and shop with less waste. www.refill.org.uk
  3. Inspire change and join the conversation. Talk to your peers and get online, discussing and learning about why reuse can bring the change we need to see in the fight against plastic pollution. Use the hashtag #WorldRefillDay on Twitter to see what others are saying.
  4. Show some love to those powering the #RefillRevolution – seek out your nearest zero waste store and have a browse.

The art of refill encourages the switch from single-use plastic to reusable, ‘refillable’ bottles and vessels. Research conducted by City to Sea has found that some three in four people want greater access to reuse and refill options[1]. YouGov research commissioned by BRITA has also found that 70% of consumers agree that food and drink businesses should provide free tap or filtered water, regardless of whether they are customers or not.

BRITA is inherently part of the refill family as our products allow our customers to enjoy tasty, filtered water from the same source, eliminating the need for single-use plastic water bottles in the home and on the go. As a company, we continue to aim to go further in this space. By 2025, we have committed to replacing more than 6.5 billion water bottles and preventing 1 million tonnes of CO2 through our products. Furthermore, #SwapForGood is BRITA’s pledge to help eradicate the use of single-use plastic bottles. It encourages people to make small changes to their lifestyle that can have a big impact on the environment.

Our range of professional filtration and dispenser systems also allow for fresh filtered water to be used in hospitality and other professional settings such as offices, keeping appliances working better for longer, as well as offering an alternative to purchasing bottled water.

At BRITA, we’re proud to offer solutions that feed into the creation of a more circular economy, and we will keep innovating to ensure we continue to offer our customers the highest quality and most sustainable drinking water solutions.
