If everyone participates, we can achieve great things

As part of our recycling community, everyone can do something for the environment

With our recycling partners, we form a strong community for environmental protection

The climate crisis and finite resources are some of the most pressing issues for us humans. We launched the BRITA recycling programme over 30 years ago to easily return used cartridges to the recycling cycle. In this way, we avoid waste, save CO₂ and can reuse valuable raw materials several times. This makes us the first supplier in the industry to focus on environmental protection through recycling at an early stage and with complete conviction.

How we recycle Professional cartridges

Cartridge recycling saves CO2 and reduces waste

Did you know that recycling our cartridges not only reduces further mountains of waste, but also reduces CO2? For example, the CO2-Footprint of a recycled PURITY C150 cartridge is 40% lower than that of a discarded cartridge.

And thanks to our recycling program, we can return up to 85%* of our cartridge content back to the recycling cycle, breathing a lot of new life into our filters.

BRITA Recycling Cycle

The BRITA Professional recycling cycle

Our cartridges have many lives

After use in the catering industry, exhausted Professional Filter cartridges are returned to us by our partners. In our plant in Taunusstein, Germany, they are opened and separated according to the material types plastic, ion exchanger and non-recyclable components.

BRITA household cartridges have also been recycled here for over 30 years.

Recycling of filter components

Ion exchange resins - the heart of new filters

It is regenerated internally until it is fully functional, dried and filled into new cartridges and is in no way inferior to new material.

Kunststoff

Plastic - the basis for new

Cartridge containers and sieves in the foot section are going back to the plastics industry - new products are created from them.

Head section of the filter cartridges

The welding of different plastics does not allow for single-type separation here. They are sent for thermal disposal.
